So, Windows 11 is out! Time to share some special product keys.

But please note: These are not normal product keys, if you think you can just use them to activate Windows, you’re very wrong!

These are product keys that are either temporary (for up- or down-grades) or keys that have additional requirements.

⚠️ If you try these keys not knowing what you’re doing, worst case, you will overwrite (lose) your current product key!

Generic (temporary upgrade/downgrade) Keys

These are temporary keys, used to upgrade or downgrade your edition of Windows. Useful if you just want to try out a different edition, or want to upgrade but can’t find your key right now. After the upgrade (or downgrade) you will require a real product key.

KMS Keys

These are keys that require an activation (KMS) server. This is usually the case in large enterprises and universities. But ask your organization for permission first, before using these, as this will charge your organization’s server.

If you bought a laptop that came with Windows 11 pre-installed, and you tried to upgrade with one of these keys but now need a real key, you can go back by using one of the temporary keys to downgrade/upgrade your edition of Windows back to the one that came pre-installed. Then, “remove” or “delete” the temporary key in the settings, and Windows should activate automatically after a little while with the pre-installed product key.

If this helped you out, consider leaving a tip to keep the blog running.

That’s all there is to it! Have a nice day!
