IMPORTANT UPDATE

Turns out email subscription was not only handled by the plugin Jetpack but it also went through their servers. Overall I was not happy with how Jetpack handled things and I have thus uninstalled it completely. If you have a subscription going on, please remove it through wordpress.com, thank you.

An alternative is to subscribe through RSS!
